Hello my lovelies!!
YES. As you can see from the title I have become an addict of fan-fictions. Those cruel, cruel little things. Ugh.
For the past month, I have been reading fan-fictions like crazy!! It ranges from Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, Marvel and Percy Jackson. Out of all that I mentioned, my favourites are Marvel, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. And for those who are wondering, I also read One Direction fan fics.
I have noticed that I have a questionable number of fanfics in my library. Its quite hard to look for a good ones on wattpad mainly because there are some that are not really readable to put it bluntly. Though, I think I am good at finding fanfics now...well, as far as I can tell. And I think the tips I am going to share to you today will help in finding the fanfics or any story that you will enjoy reading.
TIP #1: Having a good summary--on wattpad one has to look at the summary of the story to see a glimpse of how the author writes. Usually if the grammars are correct and if there aren't any cliche sentence like "Read to find out" or those annoying little bits that don't seem to belong there, it tends to have a good storyline. The summary needs to leave you wanting for more like you DO really need to find out about it. Remember, when a story, regardless whether its a fanfic or not, has a good summary or "hook" then it gets you interested enough that you would read it.
TIP #2: Content--This is very important because it is the heart and soul of the book you are reading. It doesn't matter what genre. It needs to have an efficient plot. An author doesn't need to describe the smallest of things like what the character is going to wear or what makeup they are going to put on their face. I feel like its unnecessary because its not important and significant to the plot. For fanfiction, everyone knows that they are just re-writing an already written idea but add new characters or settings. The flow needs to be smooth and it needs to feel like it actually belongs to the original story. (SIDENOTE: A BEE JUST FLEW INTO MY LIVING ROOM AND I AM FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW OMG OMG) They need to make the new characters like they belong so that readers could imagine the scene clearly in their head.
TIP #3: Less is more--This tip is connected to tip #2 but I felt like I need to have its separate section. Okay, this might turn into a rant because it is one of my pet peeves when it comes to books. PLEASE DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH PUNCTUATION MARKS LIKE THE QUESTION MARK AND THE EXCLAMATION POINT WHEN A CHARACTER IS MAD OR FURIOUS. ALSO, DO NOT CAPITALIZE THE WHOLE SENTENCE BECAUSE IF YOU DESCRIBED THE SCENE PERFECTLY THEN THE READERS WOULD KNOW THAT THE CHARACTER IS ANGRY. Wooo... Okay that felt better. I feel like a huge weight has come off my shoulders. I'm not a character so that needed to be capitalize in order to emphasize what I'm saying. Moving on...
Tip #4: Book Cover--I know how the saying goes... "Don't judge a book by its cover" Well, boo. There are some books that look as good as the content. So if a book caught your eye because of its cover grab it and read the summary on the back or on the cover leafs. This works for me most of the time and I have great books because of the covers.
Tip#5: The Author--I have learned that not all great and wonderful books come from "New York Times Best selling Authors" There are independent authors that create brilliant stories. You can find them every where on the book stores or online. So just because a book was not written by a famous author doesn't mean its not good. Okay?
I really hope these tips help you into finding a good book. For those readers who have wattpad I hope this helped find the fanfic you are looking for but if you are still having a hard time, take a minute to check out my reading list on wattpad: FanFiction Reading List
And for those who are waiting for the next chapter of Out For Blood, I apologize. I was so busy this week that I didn't have time to write. But, hopefully, I could post one by next week!
Have an awesome day!
xoxo,
Schuyler Gabrielle
